碳酸钙，白色固体状，无味、无臭。有无定型和结晶型两种形态。
结晶型中又可分为斜方晶系和六方晶系，呈柱状或菱形。
相对密度2.71。825～896.6℃分解，在约825℃时分解为氧化钙和二氧化碳。熔点1339℃，10.7MPa下熔点为1289℃。
难溶于水和醇。与稀酸反应，同时放出二氧化碳，呈放热反应。也溶于氯化铵溶液。几乎不溶于水。
由此可见碳酸钙并不能加在聚丙烯阻燃板材中！
